The Festival & how it’s Celebrated
Ganesh Chaturthi celebration is all about invoking the elephant-headed god- Ganesha who is also considered as the God of wisdom and prosperity. This festival is commemorated with great enthusiasm in places like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. On this auspicious day, devotees worship the idol of Lord Ganesh, perform the pooja and offer modhaks which are the deity’s favorite. In several other locations, idols of Ganesha are brought well in advance (which are made out of clay), worshipped for a month and then are immersed in water after the festival is over. This has been customary of the festival and the reason why people follow this is because of the belief that they would get to see the Lord again the following year.
Well, on this occasion, people dress themselves up in traditional wear with jewelry and making beautiful rangolis outside their homes. Once when the prayers are over, it is time for family gatherings and visiting friends and relatives.
Visarjan
The immersion of the idol is yet another grand fair where the devotees carry the idol in joy accompanied by the beating of the drums and chanting of the Slokas. Before the idol is immersed in water, the gulals are thrown on one another as a means of performing the final aarti. Thus, ends this mega grandeur festival!
