People say that, “when you open a book, you open a new world”. This particular line indeed has a sound sense because every time you open a book, it lands you in a world that is either filled with fantasy, mystery or love. In today’s scenario, books have become inevitable to mankind and thus the crave for it continues. There are two great things in life; one is reading a book that lets you float in its connotation and the other is traveling, so what if we combine both? Yes, here are the five books that will simply arouse the wanderlust in you thereby helping you escape your monotonous life.
1. City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi by William Dalrymple
A travelogue by William is an irresistible blend of research and adventure about the capital of India- Delhi where he has marvellously covered the rich history of the place and the relics that can be viewed by all at present as monuments.

Where it inspired me to visit: This book had really inspired me to pack my bags and head towards Delhi to explore its vast culture from the great Humayun’s tomb to Nazimuddin Dargah to much more ancient places.

2. A Journey through the Lands and Legends of Krishna by Dev Prasad
This book revolves around the glorious pastimes of Lord Krishna and the associated legends. A rich mix of travelogue with mythological reminiscences is what makes it unique.

Where it inspired me to visit: A true source of religious inspiration for all and it’s because of this book, I had decided to visit one of the holiest cities of India- Mathura and explore its culture.

3. A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush by Eric Newby
This book spins around an author’s journey through one of the most remote and beautiful wilderness on earth. It is an autobiographical account of his adventures in the Hindu Kush, around the mountains of Afghanistan.
A locality turned to an island.
Where it inspired me to visit: Well, I was in Chennai when I had completed this book and I was dumbstruck at the beauty of an adventurous trip. But I had to visit some mysterious place and, it’s there I decided to visit Dhanushkodi- a place which now remains a shadow.

4. The Beach by Alex Garland
It’s the story about a boy named Richard who lands in East Asia in search of an earthly utopia and on reaching Thailand, he is given a map promising of an unknown island and a secluded beach but when he gets there, it’s all breathtaking.

Where it inspired me to visit: As the plot included beaches, I wasn’t able to control myself visiting Goa to admire its top-notch Colonial Architecture and popular beaches.

5. In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson
This book chronicles the author’s journey across Australia, as he goes from east to west through tiny towns, coastal cities and forgotten forests.
Himalayas is formed by the Indo-Australian plate and Eurasian continental plate’s colliding.
Where it inspired me to visit: Like how the author beautifully described his journey, a strong heed had induced in me to explore India from the great Himalayan peaks to the Indian Ocean coastlines.
