This place holds a small history; Vedanthangal means, “hamlet of the hunter” was the famous hunting spot for the Britishers in the early 18th century, but after the bird’s droppings proved to be beneficial for the agricultural land, the local people took the hunting issue seriously and reported to the government for taking actions against it and it was then the government amended an act for its preservation. There is a lake nearby where the north and east side of the Vedanthangal lake supplies water to the agricultural land with its west and south side bounded by long bands. The lake receives water from four small canals and is positioned 122m above the sea level.
Birds of diverse origin are what can be encountered near Chennai with some like moorhens, egrets, terns, and cormorants existing in our country and others like snake birds, ibis, storks, herons and spoonbills come a long way from Europe to make this place their home for few months.
