Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha. This festival usually falls on the fourth day of the Hindu month Bhadrapada and is celebrated for a period of ten days which ends on the fourteenth day’s midnight. Usually, these ten days are celebrated by the people with great zest where idols of the Lord are kept in front of the temple for worship and at the end of the tenth day, these idols are taken around the city to be immersed in the lake. This is known as Ganesh Visarjan.

1. Mumbai
Here, the temple Ganapatipule is the center of attraction for the devotees of the lord that also draws tourists from all over the world to be a part of this festival. Taller idols of Lord Ganesha can be seen affixed to the palanquin that is carried on the shoulders of the devotees and taken across the village for submerging in the lake.
2. Pune
It is from the reign of the Peshwas that the idol of Lord Ganesha is considered to be their patron deity and might be coz of this reason that it is celebrated here with great zeal and gaiety. It has to be a must see destination as Pune is considered to be the cultural capital of Maharashtra and this festival is so colorful starting right from the installation of the idol on the first day to the submergence on the tenth.
3. Hyderabad
Like Mumbai and Pune, Hyderabad is yet another place for the grand celebration of this festival where over 60000 pandals of the lord are hosted. One can visit places like Balapur, Khairatabad, and Gowlipura for getting themselves to be a part of this grand event. Here, on the tenth day, the idols of the Lord are immersed in the Hussain Sagar Lake following the chants of the mantras by the devotees.
